Ketty Lester (born Revoyda Frierson, August 16, 1934) is an American singer and actress, who is known for her 1962 hit single, “Love Letters”, which reached the Top 5 of the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom, and her role in the American television series, Little House on the Prairie.

An American singer and television actress, who is best known for her 1962 hit single, “Love Letters”, which reached the Top 5 of the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

The track was a cover version of Dick Haynes’ 1945 hit, and the tune was originally the theme music for the 1945 Jennifer Jones film, Love Letters.

Lester’s version sold over one million copies, earning gold record status.

After winning a scholarship in 1955, Lester moved to California and attended the San Francisco City College, majoring in nursing. She sang in church and also appeared as a contestant on the game show, You Bet Your Life.

Lester began her singing career after studying music at San Francisco State College, and performed in the city’s Purple Onion club in the early 1950s.

Lester would later establish herself as a television actress in the 1970s and 1980s. She played the roles of ‘Helen Grant’ in the soap opera, Days of our Lives from 1975 to 1977, and ‘Hester-Sue Terhune’ on the NBC television series Little House on the Prairie from 1978 to 1983.

In 1994, Lester played the role of Aunt Lucy in the film, House Party 3.

In 1991 Lester’s version of “Love Letters” was ranked 176th in the R.I.A.A. compiled list of Songs of the Century.
